I have always enjoyed figuring things out. Whether I was working on a renovation, teaching a class, or helping someone solve a problem, I have found that I am happiest when I can look at something that is not quite working and find a way forward.
After years of teaching and working in home construction and renovation, I decided to bring those experiences together in The Sawdust Lab. I enjoy the process of taking an idea or a problem and working through the possibilities until I find a solution that works.
The name has a bit of a story behind it. The sawdust comes from my home workshop, where my yellow Lab is a regular companion. The Lab also represents the other side of what I do: learning, experimenting, testing ideas, and seeing if there is a better way.
The Sawdust Lab is my way of taking the benefits of that lab learning on the road. I bring the hands-on experience, curiosity, and problem-solving of the workshop to homes and projects throughout the surrounding area, helping people find beautiful solutions for their home.
Sydnie is more than just our workshop dog — she’s part of the team.
At 9 years old, this friendly Yellow Lab brings a calm, welcoming presence to our workshop every day. Sydnie has been trained for therapy work and has plenty of experience spending time with children, making her a natural fit for our busy environment.
Whether she’s quietly keeping students company, greeting someone at the door, or simply lounging nearby while a project takes shape, Sydnie has a special way of the projects better.
